It was October 1999 and my container of belongings arrived in Jakarta, Indonesia. Indonesia was recovering from wide spread unrest in May 1998. The unrest in 1998 was sparked by outrage of corruption, economic issues and ultimately was the final straw in the ruling of President Suharto.

October 1999 was also 2 months before Y2K. It’s finny to look back now on the controversies that were on the daily.

My time in Jakarta and my colleagues I worked with remain some of my fondest memories. When you commute together for 6 hours x 5 days a week you become close. You make jokes and learn to laugh a lot. That is what remembered most. The laughs and the smiles. Oh, and don’t forget about the Chili Sauce. On Everything. Terima Kasih!
